Organisation: Sunrise Senior Living and Gracewell Healthcare Position: Regional Director of Operations and Head of Sunrise and Gracewell’s Covid-19 Task Force

"Normally a Regional Director of Operations, Anna has been seconded to Head of Sunrise Senior Living and Gracewell taskforce Covid-19. Her heroic actions during Covid-19 not only helped to save lives, but also safeguarded the emotional wellbeing of her team members, residents and their family members".

Candy Sharrett

Organisation: Dormy Care Communities Position: Operations Manager

"A qualified nurse for over 40 years, Candy retired in 2019 but returned to the frontline during the pandemic. She moved into the care home and did not see her family for 8 weeks, during which she worked relentlessly to ensure that residents were protected from the virus".

Caroline Alford

Organisation: The Orders of St John Care Trust Position: Trust Operations Support Manager

"Caroline volunteered to step down from her substantive role of Operations Support Manager to lead a small working group dedicated to Covid-19. Her ability to understand how a care home would react to government guidance and which parts of that guidance would cause the most difficulty meant that we quickly established a straight forward, sensible set of protocols for the homes to follow".

Organisation: Achieve together Position: Service Manager

"Catherine has shown sheer dedication by getting up at 5am to go to the shops to buy essentials, not just for her service, but for a number of other services too. She did this out of the kindness of her heart day in and day out for a few weeks until essentials returned in the stores. She’s been a hero to the people we support by ensuring the activities they love could still happen even during lockdown".

"Celia's gentle, patient, kind and positive disposition makes her a favourite with residents and colleagues. Everyone is made to feel as though they matter and attention is paid to every detail to support the residents to live their life to its full".

Charlotte Levin

Organisation: Care UK Position: Deputy Manager

Charlotte really stepped up to provide emotional support for colleagues in the home throughout what was obviously a difficult time. She also went above and beyond keeping things as normal and positive for residents as she could, creating a fun and engaging environment while the home was in lockdown".

Claudia Ramsamy

Organisation: Canford Healthcare Position: Home Manager

The Willows Care Home did not have any cases of the virus during the primary period of March to May. This is largely due to Claudia’s careful management and close attention to hygiene and infection control protocols".

"Cyd stepped back in to lead the group when the Coronavirus pandemic was becoming real. She led the group from an infection control and clinical excellence perspective throughout. Her experience and knowledge were invaluable in updating Springfield with Public Health England’s ever changing guidelines and keeping our residents and team as safe as possible".

"Head Chef at Balhousie St Ronans Daniel Inglis stepped up to the challenge of creating delicious meals for the care home residents during lockdown while continuing to mentor vulnerable foster children teaching them cooking skills and providing hot meals for the homeless".

"Dan balanced care, compassion, leadership, mentoring, support and fun in equal measures! He even pulled the staff team together to do a flash mob dance, "PPE style" to highlight the importance of keeping safe. This went viral on many social media platforms".

Delphi Goodings

Organisation: PrimeLife Position: Home Manager

"Delphi picked up any shift cover herself and volunteered to live in at the home for the duration of the lockdown, self-isolating with her clients and not seeing family or friends. A truly outstanding and selfless personal effort".

Elaine Mignott

Organisation: Four Seasons Health Care Position: Personal Activities Lead

"Elaine has worked at Harrogate Lodge for 23 years. When the care home locked down and group activities curtailed, Elaine set up a mobile activity trolley. She galvanised care staff into action to assist with providing 1:1 activities in bedrooms and took it upon herself to create a beautiful garden for residents to enjoy".

"A very popular individual with the clients who has made stand out efforts to support people during the lockdown, especially in Leicester where it has been extended. Liz has stayed at the home when clients are unable to have visitors, comforting people when their families are unable to do so and often doing so outside of her shift".

"Even though Emma has some vulnerable family members she came in every day with a positive attitude and rallied others to do the same. Springfield was one of four of our homes that suffered an outbreak and whilst a notable number of residents tested positive there were very few Covid-19 deaths and we believe this was as a result of the care delivered by Emma and the team".

"Clinical Director, Frank Cummins, has been the backbone of the company Coronavirus Steering Group since it formed in early March, he is the ‘go to’ person for just about everyone on all things clinical across a portfolio of 69 homes".

Organisation: Elysium Healthcare Position: Regional Lead Nurse

"Despite being in her early pregnancy Hannah coordinated the fit testing for the whole region and trained as a trainer and travelled to the sites to carry out fit testing. She has also supported sites with regards to their knowledge around Donning & Doffing, ensuring the stations were properly placed in line with guidance".

She has simply gone above and beyond throughout the Covid-19 pandemic, thinking of the most innovative and creative ideas that are tailor made to the residents she looks after, while ensuring that they are safe and that we are following protocol".

"A Care Assistant since 2016, during the pandemic, to help keep her fellow key workers and residents safe, Lorraine often travelled out of her way to pick up and drop off colleagues, travelling up to 10 miles each time so that they didn't have to take public transport".

Luke Owens

Organisation: Bupa Position: Home Manager

"Luke promotes person centred care and is an advocate for the residents. He moved into the care home and lived with the residents who are living with dementia. This allowed him to support both staff and residents, but particularly the residents who were frightened and missing their loved ones".

Micheala Ryan

Organisation: Voyage Care Position: Risk and Governance Manager

"Micheala has personally manned a 24-hour, 7-days-a-week helpline managing all incoming queries from over 600 locations for five months. She had no time off at all until very recently despite working every weekend, late into the night".

"An exceptional member of our team Mick is passionate about providing the highest level of care possible to our residents who live with dementia. When Covid-19 first emerged, Mick led his team admirably and really made a difference. Unfortunately he contracted Covid-19 himself and was extremely poorly".

"Morag has provided exceptional leadership and support to our care home managers and staff during the Covid-19 pandemic. She provided clear direction to colleagues, instilling them with confidence to continue to deliver high standards of care whilst also finding ways to ensure that our residents were able to have fun and interact, despite the confines of social distancing".

"Hospitality Manager Peter Widdowson made sure staff were fully equipped with vital PPE during the height of the pandemic and spent many weekends driving around homes distributing it to ensure the staff had enough to work their shifts".

Rob Burcher

Organisation: Cinnamon Care Collection Position: Head of Support Services

"Rob has personally ensured that all Cinnamon homes maintain at least one month’s supply of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). Showing foresight and diligence, he telephoned suppliers daily and arranged regular deliveries to replenish stock so our team members and residents remained safe".

Robyn Cross

Organisation: Yorkare Homes Position: Registered Manager

Robyn, who manages a team of 100 staff members and cares for 70 residents at Beverley Parklands Care Home in East Yorkshire, showed fantastic leadership throughout the pandemic managing an outbreak early in the pandemic and organised the home into three separate units, with their own staff teams".

"Manager Sally made the tough decision to leave her children with her husband and move into Guy’s Court for 10 weeks. She supported her teams by going above and beyond doing laundry, cooking and cleaning, while singing to keep everyone’s spirits high. All this in addition to running the home and reassuring residents’ loved ones during continuous phone calls".

Sharon Winfield

Organisation: Avery Healthcare Position: Chief Operating Officer

"Despite contracting a suspected case of Covid-19 herself, Sharon has been inspirational in leading the operations team through this pandemic, developing and leading a Covid-19 strategy group within the company. Sharon has also found the time to personally write to residents and staff on a regular basis".

Organisation: Kingsley Healthcare Position: Domestic Support Worker

"Vanessa Frost is a Domestic Support Worker at Park Lane Care Home in Congleton, Cheshire. She came into work without fail during the height of the pandemic – picking up extra shifts whenever necessary – despite her younger daughter Tilly, eight, being hospitalised and undergoing heart surgery".
