GENEVA:
A multifaceted city in evolution
Geneva is a city always more appealing.
A prominent global centre, the French-speaking city of Geneva is the second biggest city in Switzerland (after Zurich) and a hub for diplomacy and banking.
With a long-standing reputation as one of Europe's most privileged cities, the cultural scene is rich and diverse, offering world-class music, theatre, museums, restaurants and a vibrant nightlife and club culture. For many, the draw of Geneva is its proximity to the mountains and lake and all the sporting and recreation opportunities they offer – from winter and adventure sports like skiing and snowboarding to hiking, sailing, golf, horse riding and cycling, to name but a few. There are also 288 ski resorts, all within three hours of Geneva, with Megève or Chamonix only 50 minutes away.
Buyers are also appealed by the excellent health system, the proximity of some of the country's best schools, and the city's human scale, making it ideal to adopt a more sustainable lifestyle.
Geneva's prime market is constantly growing and evolving. The growth between 2020 and 2021 reached + 20% in sales volumes and + 46% in the number of sales transactions. In 2021, 208 properties over CHF 4 million were sold in the canton – an absolute record and a total of CHF 1'830 million in sales volumes. The very popular Rive Gauche accounted for 75% of sales. Among the most sought-after municipalities, Chêne-Bougeries, Cologny, Vandoeuvres and Collonge-Bellerive represented one transaction in two. The canton of Geneva continues to grow its prestige property business in 2021 by offering the criteria most sought by future purchasers: great parks, incomparable views over the lake and mountains, excellent health infrastructure, a town of manageable proportions with all amenities close by, and schools whose reputation is second to none. Villas with gardens remain very sought-after. New arrivals on the premium property scene are new builds and high-class promotions offering luxury homes to customers seeking quality of life, modernity and comfort.
