REGIONAL INSIGHT
Hamish Humfrey
Head of South West sales
Following a successful 2020, we’ve seen another strong year of sales in the South West, with demand continuing to outstrip supply. Against our five year average we saw sales increase by 58% for property valued at £2m and up in 2021, and offers accepted by 117% in the same period. With viewings up 55% too, sellers responded (new instructions were up 65%) to make the most of a strong market. Buyers continue to reevaluate their lifestyle choices, fuelling the ‘flight to the country’; the South West’s key drivers being well-regarded schooling, transport networks, and the attraction of the coast. In this vein, the Waterfront property market continues to perform well. We’ve seen an 18% rise in new prospective buyers seeking this property type, as waterfront homes continue to benefit from the post-pandemic increase in demand for open space and desirability of non-urban areas.
